Will Delgado | Varsity Band | Drum Major, Baritone, Tuba, Trombone | wildcatwill@hotmail.com | Found you on facebook. Good site. Nice to see that the new traditions that we started then are still going strong. Hopefully the string of award winning drum majors have continued as well.
Lauren Mauck (Lauren Ricker) | Varsity Band | Tenor sax - 4 years | l_mauck@yahoo.com | I, as well as a few other die-hards, were part of the "changing of the guard". Mac retired when we were 8th graders, John Burn (only 23!), some other guy who lived in CHOWCHILLA, and then Ray Lindsey (save the Reno comments). Do you still stay at Zabies in Anaheim?!
Lionel Roberts | Varsity Band | Clarinet, Asst Drum Major - 4 years | lionjen@lionelroberts.com |
Christie Clark | Varsity Band | Clarinet, bass clarinet, and tenor sax (jazz band) - 4 years | cclark1969@charter.net | I was one of the lucky few who got to spend 6 years with Mr. Mac (2 at Mission Hill and 4 at SCHS). He has left an indelible mark in all of our hearts, minds and souls for those who were lucky enough to be under his direction. He was one that was always making sure I was doing well in my classes so that I would be able to compete in the band reviews. 2 memories that come to mind are (1) Mr. Mac jogging around the track at some awful hour of the morning before Jazz Band, and (2) him throwing his baton and threatening to retire! He will be greatly missed! We love you Mr. Mac! Some favorite band trips were all the Hollywood Xmas Parades, the World Expo 1985 (Canada), and ALL the local Band Reviews
Richelle Noroyan | Varsity Band | Clarinet & Tenor Sax - 4 years | richelle@baymoon.com | This website is great! I loved reading all your comments. Aside from the great opportunity to play a muscial insturment, Mr. Mac provided us the opportunity to belong to an institution that had a place for all of us. I am so grateful for Mr. Mac's patience (this is an understatement) and willingness to provide such a great experience for all of us. Drop me a line! I am still in Santa Cruz and would like to know how you're doing.
Shawn Smith | Varsity Band | Saxophone - 4 years | Chaos68@verizon.net | I was also in Jazz Band. In any case, as others have said Mr. Mac was awesome! I often wonder what the old gang is up to (Jerry's Squad, The Panero Brothers, the members of Speciall Guest)...I hope life is finding you all well.
Melissa Stevens | Varsity Band | Flute & Bass Drum - 4 years | mamabunny@citlink.net | Wow, this is great!! I would love to hear from all of you!
Martin Corona | Varsity Band | Drum Major - 2 years, Percussion - 4 Years | mmcorona9@yahoo.com | WHAT'S UP! Band was a kick in the ass and we did kick some ass. It was whether or not there would be an Overall Band Sweepstakes. We/I was taught well, Mac(RIP), Ron, Cassius, Lester etc. It's Amazing how good we were considering how much we/I Partied! WooHoo! Looks like present SCHS is Kicking some A..! I hope to see you all(Jeff,Colleen,Andrea, ect)Oct 21st. Oh, and CLASS OF 84 ROCKS!!!
Jeff Matlock | Varsity Band | Saxophone - 4 years | jmatlocks@cruzio.com | Mr. Mac was one of the most influential adults of my high school life. He would stop me in the hall and ask about things he had heard about me, good and, very often, bad. He was an adult whose care and interest was not lost on me. I feel privileged to have been taught by the man. The Big Red Band was a four-year laughfest with competition thrown in every month. The people I was fortutunate enough to work with were among the best people I have ever met. Sly forever!!
Ofelia Hernandez | Color Guard | Tall Flags - 2 years | maria@allume.com | Best part of high school? Mr. Mac and the Band!
Colleen Mulholand | Varsity Band | Flute and saxophone - 4 years | mulholand@earthlink.net | There were so many things that were great about band; the people, the traveling, that feeling of anticipation standing in formation right before the competition started at the band review, the chaos of the band review, wondering if everyone got their uniform out of the cleaners (and if they didn't good ol' Scott Murray would go get them), and the sheer joy of making music and entertaining-Thanks Mr Mac.
Debby Robello (Debby Rappaport) | Varsity Band | Trombone & Clarinet - 4 years | debrobello@yahoo.com | 20+ years and 3 kids later, my boys are all interested in learning some kind of musical instrument. Mr. Mac was THE MAN!
Jerome Deck, Jr. | Varsity Band | Tuba - 4 years | jeromedeck@kp.org |
Andrea Rosenfeld (Andrea Moore) | Varsity Band | Drums - 4 years | andreasmail@earthlink.net | In addition to not spilling beverages when I walk, I learned a great many wonderful things during my years in band. Learning to read music was not one of them, but that didn't seem to matter! It is great to share so many happy memories with my bandmates.
Thomas L Roberts | Varsity Band | Clarinet, Drum major - 4 years | thomas_roberts@excite.com | Wow, the Big Red Band is online! Band was the greatest experience of my high school life. I had great mentors, Cassius and Ron Salinas. Where the heck are you guys these days? Mr Mac is a living legend. We went to Victoria, now the new band is off to Maui...
Stacy Anders (Stacy Erba) | Color Guard | Tall Flags - 5 years | scruz5000@aol.com |
Donna Larson | Varsity Band | Percussion - 4 years | segre@softcom.net | Band was a lot of fun and made High School a great experience.
Dennis Lira | Varsity Band | Saxaphone - 4 years | dennislira@usa.net | Hello to all my fellow band mates!
Jeff Downey | Varsity Band | Clarinet, Sax - 4 years | jeffdowney@hotmail.com | Howdy...back in the Bay Area after 14 years in Austin, TX. Mr. Mac was one of the most influential teachers at SCHS...I had the pleasure of talking to him just before he passed away...at 77 he was just as sharp and interesting as ever. Sure miss him and the fun we all had; glad to see the tradition of excellence still lives on.
Ruth Jones (Ruth Hill) | Varsity Band | Saxophone - 1 year | jones7726@sbcglobal.net | I am a total band geek as my kids would say, Ron, Mike, laura, kay, Cassius, Julie ect what a Band group to go to Hs with. I think Band made so many wonderful memories that I can share with my kids and I am not ashamed of. Mr. Mac was great band director. I admire him. The band trips were so fun I wish that today was as simple as those days.
Jennifer Martin (Jennifer Larson) | Varsity Band | Bells, French Horn, Piano - 4 years | jlmartin246@hotmail.com | I loved my years in band. Hi to all you band friends! I have a hard time convincing my teenagers that band was "cool" when I was in highschool. Too bad all schools don't have a Mr. Mac to teach hard work and discipline.
Kay Smith (Kay Larson) | Varsity Band | Flute, bassoon - 4 years | dkjtsmith@carolina.rr.com | Mr. Mac encouraged team work, commitment and a true sense of community. Band was a significant stepping stone in my life - great memories! I hope public music programs will continue to be valued and made available to help shape adults of the future!
Ron Salinas | Varsity Band | Trumpet, French Horn, Drum Major - 4 years | ronsali@aol.com | Band was the best part of my high school experience! Gee...what a surprise, huh? :)
Mike Yambrovich | Varsity Band | Tuba - 4 years | myambrovich@excite.com | I had my first dream job as a Navy pilot. Now I have my second dream job - nearly. I play trombone in the 59th Army Band in Sac. I also get to see the Cardinal Reg't when I judge Marching or Drum Majors at band reviews. Thanks Mr. Mac.
Gail Lukan | Varsity Band | Flute, piccolo and majorette - 4 years | gails190e@hotmail.com | Many wonderful memories with my fellow musicians and the majorettes. Mr. Mac was a great man! I wish it was the same for kids now.
Dave Gregoric | Varsity Band | Baritone/Trombone/Trumpet - 4 years | dakpop@yahoo.com | I thought I would chime in...I am a band director ( I am the director of Jazz studies at Valley Christian schools in San Jose) . and have the gray hair to prove it (but at least I still have it...oops, sorry Mr. Mac). I want to congratulate Mr. Mac on his induction into the CMEA hall of fame...well deserved. A big hello to Mike Y. and Ron...those were great drills back in the day! GEEOUT
