Comment: I've been getting nostalgic for my band years lately. I was also there during the time of changing directors... Twice. At Mission Hill Junior High I played under Mr. Burn (Fall semester only) and Mr. McNair (saw him marching another band through the SC review in 2007), then started 9th grade under Mr. Lindsey, for the birth of the Cardinal Regiment. The second change occured my Junior year (1995-1996) when we marched mostly under substitutes before Mr. Wiltshire came in for my Senior year.
It's been almost 15 years since all that! Can I even begin to describe how much brain power it took me to remember it all?? And I'm not even sure I got it all right! :-P

Comment: I, as well as a few other die-hards, were part of the "changing of the guard". Mac retired when we were 8th graders, John Burn (only 23!), some other guy who lived in CHOWCHILLA, and then Ray Lindsey (save the Reno comments). Do you still stay at Zabies in Anaheim?!

Comment: I was one of the lucky few who got to spend 6 years with Mr. Mac (2 at Mission Hill and 4 at SCHS). He has left an indelible mark in all of our hearts, minds and souls for those who were lucky enough to be under his direction. He was one that was always making sure I was doing well in my classes so that I would be able to compete in the band reviews. 2 memories that come to mind are (1) Mr. Mac jogging around the track at some awful hour of the morning before Jazz Band, and (2) him throwing his baton and threatening to retire! He will be greatly missed! We love you Mr. Mac! Some favorite band trips were all the Hollywood Xmas Parades, the World Expo 1985 (Canada), and ALL the local Band Reviews

We/I was taught well, Mac(RIP), Ron, Cassius, Lester etc. It's Amazing how good we were considering how much we/I Partied! WooHoo! Looks like present SCHS is Kicking some A..! Comment: Mr. Mac was one of the most influential adults of my high school life. He would stop me in the hall and ask about things he had heard about me, good and, very often, bad. He was an adult whose care and interest was not lost on me. I feel privileged to have been taught by the man. The Big Red Band was a four-year laughfest with competition thrown in every month. The people I was fortutunate enough to work with were among the best people I have ever met. Sly forever!!

Comment: There were so many things that were great about band; the people, the traveling, that feeling of anticipation standing in formation right before the competition started at the band review, the chaos of the band review, wondering if everyone got their uniform out of the cleaners (and if they didn't good ol' Scott Murray would go get them), and the sheer joy of making music and entertaining-Thanks Mr Mac.

Comment: Howdy...back in the Bay Area after 14 years in Austin, TX. Mr. Mac was one of the most influential teachers at SCHS...I had the pleasure of talking to him just before he passed away...at 77 he was just as sharp and interesting as ever. Sure miss him and the fun we all had; glad to see the tradition of excellence still lives on.

I think Band made so many wonderful memories that I can share with my kids and I am not ashamed of. Mr. Mac was great band director. I admire him.
