2008 - 2009 Performance Schedule
General Schedule, Fall Semester
The first part of the school year is the fall band season. The end of the fall season comes before you know it and then the sometimes-hectic pace of fall settles down.
September
For class:
- Trumpet players need straight and cup mutes for concert band, harmon mutes for jazz band.
- French horn and trombone players need straight mutes.
- Woodwind players need to purchase the correct reeds from Union Grove, Thomas, or Sylvan Music stores.
- You will receive grading policy and class expectations.
- You will work on scales and music fundamentals.
- Chair placement will take place through live small group auditions.
- Have the march/routine learned BY MEMORY no later than Sept. 21.
For Band Activities:
- Uniforms will be fitted by the second week of school.
- Extra after-school or evening rehearsals will be scheduled once weekly before every band review competition.
- Drum Line and Color Guard should expect rehearsals outside of band/guard class and regularly scheduled evenings with the band proper, if needed.
- Student accounts payment due October 1st.
- Opportunities for small groups of upper classmen to earn money for band fees working company picnics at the Boardwalk.
October
- In class we start concert music. The color guard has their routine learned and is now cleaning and polishing it.
- We are busy with football and band reviews and have settled into a routine.
- In class, scales tests and written theory test for end of quarter.
November
- The fall band review season ends with the Lincoln Band Review in Stockton, California. Hurray!
- We will prepare for Winter concerts, Downtown Holiday Parade.
- Color guard auditions for Winterguard season.
- All-State and All-Northern Honor Band tapes due November 25th.
December
- Downtown Holiday Parade Saturday December 6th.
- Marching band and color guard recruitment performances at local schools.
January
- Winter Concert December 17th.
- New concert music handed out.
- Honor bands happen early January.
- End of Semester: Scales and written theory test.
- Color guard well into learning their winter show.
- Marching band and color guard recruitment performances at local schools.
General Schedule, Spring Semester
February
- Solo and ensemble month: concerts and festivals.
- All-State Honor Band in Fresno.
- Possible winterguard performance at basketball game.
March
- Winterguard finishes routine and travels to winterguard shows.
April
- Concert season continues with NCBA concert and jazz festival.
May
- Spring Concert on May 29th
June
- Drum Major Auditions.
- Band Awards.
- New student orientation.
- Band members play at graduation.
